Advocating for a Brighter Future
At The November Saturdays Foundation, our commitment extends beyond the field. We actively advocate for systemic changes that create equitable opportunities and support systems for all youth.
Prioritizing Youth Mental Wellness
Mental Health Advocacy
Youth mental health is inextricably linked to their ability to thrive in sports, academics, and life. Many of the young people we serve come from backgrounds where mental health support is scarce or stigmatized. We advocate for increased access to mental health resources, destigmatization of mental illness, and integrated support systems within schools and community programs. Our goal is to ensure that every child has the emotional resilience and support needed to overcome challenges and reach their full potential.
Our Advocacy Focus:
- Increased funding for school-based mental health services and community clinics
- Early intervention programs designed to identify and address mental health concerns at an early age
- Destigmatization campaigns to foster open conversations about mental health
- Integrated support systems that bridge sports organizations, schools, and mental health professionals
- Accessible mental health resources for underserved communities
Reforming Systems, Restoring Futures
Youth & Prison Reform
The justice system disproportionately impacts underserved youth, often leading to cycles of incarceration that derail promising lives. We advocate for comprehensive prison reform that prioritizes rehabilitation over punishment, focuses on restorative justice practices, and provides educational and vocational opportunities for young offenders. Our work aims to reduce recidivism, support successful reintegration into society, and ensure that a single mistake does not define a young person's entire future.
Our Advocacy Focus:
- Diversion programs as alternatives to incarceration for non-violent youth offenses
- Educational and vocational training within juvenile detention centers and post-release programs
- Mentorship and reintegration support connecting youth with mentors and resources upon release
- Ending cash bail for juvenile offenses to prevent pre-trial detention based on economic status
- Restorative justice practices that prioritize healing and rehabilitation over punishment
Stability and Opportunity for Foster Youth
Foster Care Advocacy
Youth in the foster care system face immense instability, often moving between homes and schools, which severely disrupts their academic and athletic development. The November Saturdays Foundation is deeply committed to advocating for policies that provide greater stability, consistent educational support, and access to extracurricular activities for foster youth. We believe that every child, especially those in foster care, deserves a stable environment where they can pursue their passions and build a foundation for a successful future.
Our Advocacy Focus:
- Educational continuity policies to minimize school changes and ensure seamless transfer of academic records
- Funding and support for foster youth to participate in sports, arts, and other enriching activities
- Dedicated mentorship programs providing consistent guidance and emotional support
- Transitional support resources for foster youth aging out of the system to ensure successful independence
- Increased support for foster families and kinship care arrangements
